my drivers ed teacher was also a coach at my high school. i am not sure what he coached, i just know he wore a too tight shirt that said “coach”. he also wore the standard oklahoma coaching shorts. you know the ones. and if you don’t, well here is your education. oklahoma coaching shorts (ocs) usually come in three colors, black, gray or blue. they are short, at least six to eight inches above the knee. the main and most attractive feature of the ocs is their extreme tightness. they are made from a stretchy material that is not natural but dose a great job of keeping everything locked in. everything but the mass that usually grows around the middle section of most oklahoma high school coaches. there are also two small metal buttons at the waist band that gives a little extra security for the large to extra extra large belly’s these men seem to posses.

i remember staring at those buttons in amazement, wondering how something so small could be holding in something so big.

here are just a few extra facts about ocs’s that you might find helpful. most coaches wear their t-shirts tucked into their ocs’s. i believe it is a way to “class up” their look. black running shoes with black soaks or white running shoes with white socks seems to be the popular shoe choice. but for a more casual look, some coaches have been spotted wearing sandals, but with socks of course. because of the stretchy but tight fitting fabric, i believe ocs’s provide coaches with ultimate mobility and comfort. they are the perfect shorts for lunges, knee-bends and running short distances. ocs’s also allow a coach the choice wearing his shorts high, completely covering their middle or the waist band can come up under their impressive stomachs, letting the belly roam free and proud. either way, ocs’s are versatile and forgiving making them the perfect athletic attire for any oklahoma high school coach. 

this was my drivers ed teacher, no my drivers ed coach, and he was great. my driving education consisted of taking turns driving to varies malls all over oklahoma, running errands for the coaches wife. we usually ended the day at mc dondals, were a round of sundaes was bought. my drivers ed coach was a sweet, funny and patient. he had to be to spend hours in a car with four high school girl learning to drive. right now, i can see him perfectly in my mind, oklahoma coaching shorts and all.
